Sexy but still safe: The Volvo XC60 R-Design is not just a handsome ride, it’s a touring wagon suitable for Australian conditions.

Story By Bruce McMahon

Among today’s Volvos, the XC60 R-Design is a great combination of past, present and future. This SUV looks great, drives well, is packed with safety innovations and rides Australia’s long back roads with confidence. The R-Design is the hero wagon of today’s XC60s, Volvo’s best-selling range. It has a very handsome stance and a muscle tone to the five-door body that sets it apart from most other European SUVs.
It may be a sexy wagon, but remains very safe, too. Among Volvo’s latest safety offerings are active high beam, which understands how much headlight beam to drop for oncoming traffic, plus pedestrian and cyclist detection with Autobrake, part of the adaptive cruise-control option. A Volvo can brake itself if too close to another car in city traffic, read the traffic ahead, behind and to the sides, plus check for vehicles reversing out of car parks. This is all on top of a myriad of primary and secondary safety features already built into the Volvo XC60.
